Humanoid robots for the home: what exists vs what's demoed
The short version

The only humanoid you can buy for your house in mid-2026 is the 1X NEO at $20,000, and a remote 1X employee still drives it through anything hard.

Search "humanoid robot for home" and the results imply a shelf of android butlers waiting for your credit card. Almost everything filmed doing chores is a factory robot, a developer platform, or a keynote slide. So here is every full-size humanoid people search for, sorted by the only thing that matters: whether a household can actually get one.

Where every home humanoid actually stands

The one aimed at your house: 1X NEO

NEO is the only full-size humanoid whose maker markets it as a home robot and will actually take your order. On 1x.tech/order it lists at $20,000 outright or $499/month, with a $200 refundable deposit due today and the line "US Deliveries start 2026." That is genuinely historic. It is also the whole catch.

NEO's own product page describes "basic autonomy for early owners," and then this: "For complex tasks NEO doesn't know, an Expert from 1X can remotely supervise its actions at scheduled times." In plain terms, for anything hard, a remote 1X employee drives the robot in your home through a VR headset. Fortune reported in February 2026 that NEO could not yet do household tasks autonomously and that early buyers are effectively training the AI. The Wall Street Journal got a day with one on camera, and the pattern held: the impressive moments had a human pilot behind them. No independently verified customer delivery had happened as of this writing.

Ships today, but it is not a butler: Unitree and Booster

You can genuinely check out and pay for a walking humanoid right now, if you stick to Unitree's two cheapest. It just will not do your dishes on its own.

  • Unitree G1: $13,500 on Unitree's store, down from about $16,000 at its May 2024 launch (one of the rare robots that got cheaper). Unitree's own G1 page tells individual buyers to "thoroughly understand the limitations of humanoid robots before making a purchase."
  • Unitree R1: from $4,900. The first sub-$5,000 full-size-ish biped. Same platform caveat.
  • Unitree H2: $29,900 (the old flagship H1 is $90,000). Neither has a cart; both route to sales_global@unitree.cc.
  • Booster K1: from $5,999, sold at booster.tech and described flatly as "Made for Developers." Buy Now opens an inquiry form, not a checkout.

None of these are home assistants. They are programmable platforms for labs, robotics students, and tinkerers. Out of the box a G1 walks and balances; what it does is whatever you (or a research team) write. It is a very expensive way to learn what "research platform" means, and Unitree's own product page tells you so before you reach the checkout button. Demos only: aimed at your living room, currently living at a car factory

These are the robots in the slick chore videos. Watch where they actually clock in.

  • Figure 03 markets "the future of home help" and its Helix AI for household navigation. Figure's own news timeline shows F.03 arriving at BMW on 2026-06-30. It is deployed to an automaker, not a home. No consumer price is published anywhere I can load.
  • Apptronik Apollo is "manufacturing, warehousing, and logistics" first, with the home named as an eventual future ("and ultimately, the home"). The only button on apptronik.com is contact sales.
  • XPeng Iron is working XPeng's own production lines assembling cars, with mass production targeted for end of 2026. No consumer purchase path.

No product at all: Tesla Optimus

Optimus is the most-searched humanoid and the least buyable. There is no price page and no reservation flow. What it has instead is a pattern Musk documented himself. Under a January 2024 Optimus demo he posted the note that the robot "cannot yet do this autonomously" but "certainly will be able to do this fully autonomously and in an arbitrary environment."

On the page as the dated autonomy promise, in the CEO's own words, that everything after it gets measured against.

Two years on, in January 2026, Musk admitted "no Optimus robots are doing useful work" at Tesla, and the V3 reveal has slipped repeatedly through 2026. The quoted "$20,000 to $30,000" is a Musk target; analysts peg early units at $50,000 to $100,000+. Every "Optimus for $20K" headline is quoting an aspiration, not a product. So what actually goes in a home in 2026?

If the real goal is a robot in your house this year, a $20,000 teleoperated humanoid is probably not it. The context worth keeping: Goldman Sachs' 2030 base case is 250,000+ humanoids shipped, "almost all of which would be for industrial use" (Goldman, Feb 2024). The consumer wave is a mid-2030s story. What genuinely works in homes today is smaller and cheaper: desk companions and eldercare companions, not bipeds.
